Spoiler:
Soaring into its ninth season, this modern retelling of the Superman legend and its classic characters continues to blend realism, action and emotional depth to reveal a new interpretation of the enduring mythology. This season, as Metropolis' clock tower tolls our characters' darkest hour, we find Clark Kent (Tom Welling) finally making his first attempts to embrace his calling as a superhero.
After the events of last season, Clark takes on the mantle of protector of Metropolis, trading in his familiar red-and-blue for black-and-gray, sticking to the city's shadows and rooftops to become a solitary sentry simply known as "the Blur." While Clark wrestles with his identity, feeling forced to choose between his Kryptonian heritage and human past, he'll encounter even more powerful enemies and allies from across the DC Universe. This season will feature new and past nemeses, including Metallo (Brian Austin Green, "Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles"), the man with the Kryptonite heart; Roulette, a sexy mastermind; the return of Toyman; and the always-treacherous Zod (Callum Blue) as a young Major and leader of an invading alien army, who befriends fellow Kryptonian Clark just as his venomous side is beginning to emerge. This season will also feature an appearance by DC Comics' first all-star team of superheroes, the Justice Society of America, in an episode penned by renowned comic book writer Geoff Johns, who returns to the show after writing last year's fan favorite episode, "Legion."
After a year of protecting Metropolis as the "Red-Blue Blur," Clark Kent finished season eight with the weight and fate of the world on his shoulders, facing down Doomsday. Clark emerged victorious, but his decision to ignore the Justice League's warnings and save the human side of medic Davis Bloome (Sam Witwer) from the monster Doomsday came with a tragic cost – Davis turned out to be just as evil as the beast he'd been bonded to, and murdered Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) in front of Chloe (Alison Mack), the woman they both loved. In the wake of Jimmy's death, Chloe retreated into her Watchtower, the Justice League disbanded, and Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) went into a downward spiral, retiring his Green Arrow persona. And Clark turned his back on his own humanity, leaving behind life as "Clark Kent" to exist solely as "the Blur." Meanwhile, Tess Mercer's (Cassidy Freeman) obsession with Clark's Kryptonian origins came to a head when she confronted intrepid reporter Lois Lane (Erica Durance) about a mysterious alien orb that Tess thought Lois had stolen from her, resulting in the two women battling it out in the Daily Planet. During the fight, Lois touched Clark's time-traveling Legion Ring and vanished in a flash of light, lost somewhere in time. And Tess returned home to discover the orb had released a young version of the villainous Kryptonian, Zod, as well as the entire population of the lost alien city of Kandor. But Clark finished the season unaware of this new threat. Instead, he remains haunted by Lois' sudden disappearance, fearing the woman he cares about most could have been killed during his fight with Doomsday.
The season nine premiere takes place three weeks after Clark and Doomsday's epic battle. Obsessed with becoming the hero the world needs, Clark is now literally leaving his mark on Metropolis – having fully embraced his Kryptonian side in order to finish training with his father Jor-El, Clark has started wearing the iconic "S"-shield on his chest, and spreads the symbol around the city in an effort to give its people hope.
Whereas Clark is working alone, Chloe feels driven to reunite the disbanded Justice League. Her biggest challenge is Oliver Queen, who'd rather lose himself in underground fight clubs and drunken one-night stands. Oliver's friends will hatch a plan to bring him back from the edge. Reconnecting with the hero inside of him, Oliver will return with a renewed purpose, even searching out an apprentice in Mia Dearden, DC comics' teenaged sidekick "Speedy."
Clark and Oliver will find themselves caught up in a love triangle with Lois, as both men's passions begin to burn brightly for her. Returning from her trip through time, Lois starts experiencing nightmarish visions of the future. Could they come true? If so, one not-so-troubling image is playing itself over and over in her head – Lois and Clark locked in a romantic, erotic embrace. Meanwhile, Clark continues to be conflicted over his own feelings for Lois. As the sparks fly, Lois and Clark's relationship will deepen, leading to their first true kiss, and possibly something more.
Meanwhile, Clark and Chloe's relationship is starting to become strained. No longer content just being Clark's sidekick, Chloe uses Watchtower's powerful computers to spin her own web of influence and intrigue, manipulating people like chess pieces in the name of the greater good. But when Chloe begins to believe the ends justify the means, it sends her on a collision course with her friend and ally Clark.
When it comes to master manipulators, Tess Mercer has emerged as the rightful heir to Lex Luthor's legacy. Always inscrutable, Tess has her hands full this season with an army of Kryptonians, newly arrived from the lost city of Kandor and led by the infamous Zod. However, this incarnation of Zod is younger than the one we remember – he has yet to grow into the power-mad psychopathic dictator, General Zod. Season nine's Zod may only be a Major, but he's already a cunning strategist and charismatic leader who knows how to inspire his troops. But behind his magnetism and those piercing eyes, Zod is still very dangerous. When Zod and Clark eventually meet, Clark recognizes that if he can befriend his fellow Kryptonian, he might be able to influence Zod away from becoming an evil, twisted tyrant. While it's true this Major Zod has certain vulnerabilities, it may only take a handful of betrayals to turn him into Clark's deadly arch-nemesis.
"Smallville" was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

Spoiler:
Interview: Erica Durance is Still Hanging with SMALLVILLE Written by Christina Radish Monday, 14 September 2009 17:38
Now entering its 9th season, premiering on September 25th, the CW television series Smallville is a modern retelling of the Superman legend and its classic characters. Blending realism, action and emotional depth to reveal a new interpretation of the enduring mythology, the drama will find Clark Kent (Tom Welling) finally making his first attempts to embrace his calling as a superhero.
The Season 9 premiere takes place three weeks after the epic battle between Clark and Doomsday (Sam Witwer). Obsessed with becoming the hero the world needs, Clark has now embraced his Kryptonian side, in order to finish training with his father Jor-El. Returning from her trip through time, at the end of last season, Lois Lane (Erica Durance) is experiencing nightmarish visions of the future, while Clark is conflicted over his feelings for her.
While talking to press, Erica Durance revealed that this season will be all about exploring the relationship between Clark and Lois, and how she hopes that Stiletto costume won't make a return again.
Q: It's rare for a show to make it to a ninth season. Were you surprised when you got the ninth season pick-up, or did you feel like you were definitely getting another season?
Erica: I never think, "Oh, I'm getting another season." I make the best of it, with where I'm at and what I'm doing because this business is so fickle and transient. I'm just thankful to all the fans that watch it and keep it on the air. And, I think that it's helpful because it started out with all the characters being young, and growing into it. So, they can have a longer existence, change, bring in new characters and have it grow towards more of the mythos, which I think that people will see a lot more of, in this season, and get a bit of a pay-off for all their patience.
Q: Where is the Lois and Clark relationship going this season?
Erica: They only give me little hints. I think that you're going to see a lot more of that triangle. She's so smitten with the Red-Blue Blur, and yet is undeniably drawn to Clark. I think, over the season, you'll be able to see how much they depend on each other, on so many levels. There's still that fun and that comedy side of it, with the banter, but they're also just trying to figure out how they feel about each other.
Q: Is there still something between Lois and Oliver?
Erica: No. She's done with Oliver! She's found the real deal. No. The beauty about the relationship with Oliver, that I liked, was that it was one of the first times you saw Lois in something that was mature, and where she really opened up and was really vulnerable with someone.
I don't think you ever forget that first love, but I think that she loves him as a friend, and she sees him in a downward spiral, so there's a lot of that interaction. I've heard that he starts to regret his decision to get rid of Lois, to which I say, "Ha ha!" So, in this season, now I have more of a triangle of two guys, vying for her attention, which is a nice treat for Smallville. Usually, it's all the women salivating over Clark, so it's fun. I get to the set and go, "Start to be smitten, boys! Let's go! It's your turn!"
Q: Do you ever alter lines to help make the character your own?
Erica: As an actor, I try to find the challenge of it, and there are a couple of challenges. First, I'll read it and I'll know, instinctually, if it's something that she wouldn't do, and they've been really, really helpful with that. But, they're so good that it doesn't really stray that much. If it's a little off, then we talk about it, and I go, "Who's not comfortable with this, Erica or Lois?" And then, I have to be really honest about it and go, "You know what? She's human. Maybe she would do that." So, there's a lot of give and take in that. But, definitely, I'm be able to tell, right away, when I read something, if it doesn't feel right.
Q: Are you excited or apprehensive, when you read a script and find out you have to do a lot of action?
Erica: If I've just done a lot of action, then I don't want to do it. But, I love it. That's what I enjoy about playing this character. One week, I'm doing two days' worth of fighting and I'm walking around with bruises. And then, the next day, I'm in some romantic scene. It's all over the place, and I love that about her.
Q: How do you feel about the Stiletto costume from last season?
Erica: Oh my gosh, what a riot! Some people really hated it. The thing about Lois is that she'll try anything. She will do stuff. But, she'll also be the first one to say, "I was wrong. Let me make it right." And, that's what she did, in that episode. She risked her life. She jumped in to save her friends, and was like, "I'm sorry." I think that's what makes her human. The suit was hilarious because I couldn't sit down.
Q: Would you like to see the return of Stiletto, at some point?
Erica: No, I wouldn't! I couldn't breathe, eat or sit. But, it was a fun one, for sure.
- Entrevista a Callum Blue por "Iesb.net":
Spoiler:
Interview: Callum Blue Commands You to Kneel Before SMALLVILLE Written by Christina Radish Monday, 14 September 2009 17:36
This season on Smallville, returning to the CW on September 25th, will feature new and past nemeses, including the always-treacherous Zod (Callum Blue). The villainous threat is a young Major and leader of an invading alien army from the lost city of Kandor, who befriends fellow Kryptonian Clark Kent, just as his venomous side is beginning to emerge.
Actor Callum Blue recently spoke to the press about becoming part of the cast, catching up on episodes, and getting in on the action on Smallville.
Q: Were you familiar with the character of Zod, before you were cast?
Callum: I was. I remember the movie, from when I was a kid. I remember being terrified of him. That steely coldness is not over the top. It's all in that movie. He's just calm, and that terrified me, when I was a kid. So, I do remember it and I loved it.
Q: Have you tried to go outside with the costume on?
Callum: My costume, at the moment, is army fatigues because I have a whole army. It's like a Fascist Party, and I'm the leader of it, so we all have the same outfit with an arm band. So, it's a different take on the costume. I'm actually Major Zod, at the moment. When I start growing into being General Zod, that's when the costume will come in. I've gotta do a few more weights, before that happens, though.
Q: Obviously, there's going to be some action scenes. What sort of action have you already done?
Callum: I've already chopped somebody's head off. But, I can't wait to do all the flying stuff because, obviously, Zod will eventually have the same powers as Superman.
Q: Will you do wire work?
Callum: Yeah, all that stuff. I'm really, really excited. I love all that stuff. Q: Sometimes with actors, when they sign on for a TV show, they book a seven episode commitment or a 13 episode commitment. Were you signed on for a certain number of episodes?
Callum: Yeah, I signed for two years. Out of the 22 episodes, I think I'm in 16 or 17. It will be a major part of the show. I think they're definitely going to develop him more.
Q: Are you primarily working with Cassidy Freeman?
Callum: Yes. She's the only one aware of Zod's presence, at the moment.
Q: Does she know exactly what your identity is?
Callum: Yes. She actually summoned Zod and his army. In the last episode of season eight, at the end of the finale, you see Zod coming down.
Q: What did you know about Smallville, before you were cast?
Callum: I wasn't familiar with the show. Obviously, I knew about it. It's a huge show. I started to watch it, when I got cast, and I loved it. I think it looks brilliant. I think everybody is brilliant in it.
Q: What did production give you to get ready to be on the show? Did they give you all the seasons, or just certain episodes?
Callum: That would be a lot of episodes to get through. They gave me the episodes where Zod appears, which was several of the episodes. He takes over Lex Luthor's body, at one point. I got all of the stuff, whenever he was mentioned. I hadn't actually seen the show before, so it was good for me to see that.
Q: So, you are playing the Zod that was in Lex's body? Callum: The Zod that took over Lex's body was the future me. It's confusing. Zod is in the phantom zone. Tess takes me from the past because Zod has already blown up Krypton, on the show. He's in the phantom zone for major crimes against Krypton. I think he's the one that destroyed the planet. I haven't done that yet, in my body.
Q: From a character aspect, what story arcs are you interested in exploring with Zod, going forward?
Callum: I don't want him to have any question in his mind about what he wants to do. I don't want him to have any redeeming qualities or features. There's definitely a human side of him. He's insecure. There's a reason why he's a villain. I just think there's no such thing as villains. I think it's just a different perspective on life. He knows what he wants. He wants everybody to kneel before him.
Q: In the show, you have a bunch of people following you. Who are some of those characters?
Callum: There are the two sidekicks of Zod's. There's Faora, who I think is his future wife. She's with him all the time. And, the guy who doesn't speak, but he does speak in this version, is in it, too. They're great. Zod bosses them around a lot. Actually, in the first couple of episodes, nobody knows what's going on, and they all blame Zod because he's their leader. He has to fight to get his power back. There's this huge speech, like a Hitler speech, and then he gets everybody back on his side.
Q: Has he captured Clark Kent yet?
Callum: No. He's just become aware of Jor-El being around and surviving.
Q: You're filming in Vancouver. Was it your first time in the city? What is the best thing about filming there?
Callum: I've actually lived there for two years. I filmed Dead Like Me there, so it's great to be back in that city. I really love it. The great thing is that you've get the beach and then you've get the mountains. I ski and surf. Q: As a younger version of Zod, is this Zod not as contemptuous toward Jor-El as the future Zod, or is that anger relationship still there?
Callum: He's just discovering what's been going on. They were friends. They have history, and they're going to explore the history with him and Jor-El in the show. He doesn't know yet. Without giving too much away, I just played a scene where Zod is starting to become aware that he is there and he's had these powers, and he's keeping the powers from us. That's where this whole contention comes from.
Q: So, Zod doesn't have super-powers?
Callum: No. That's why everybody turns against him. We've been promised these powers, and then we get to Earth and we haven't got the powers, and we don't know why.
Q: Speaking of Dead Like Me, is there any chance that you'll do another feature film?
Callum: Yeah, I would definitely be up for that. I'm feeling a bit old, at the moment, to play Mason. He died in the ‘60's and he's stayed the same age, but I look completely different. But, I would like to explore him further. There's a lot further to go with that show. They've been talking about another movie, for sure.
Q: Is there anything that you geek out about yourself?
Callum: Can I lie about this? It's probably best to lie, isn't it? I'm not a sci-fi fan, to be honest. I actually just filmed a couple episodes of Sanctuary as well. When they try to tell me the storylines, I just go blank. I just don't know what's going on. They're so complex. Because I've been filming sci-fi for a little while, I'm actually getting more and more involved, and more and more into it. These characters are pretty loved.
Q: Dead Like Me has a big fan following, and Smallville has a huge fan following. As an actor, is that something that you're excited about, or is it a little intimidating?
Callum: It's exciting for me because there's such different characters. You can't really get more different, with these characters. Once you're in the sci-fi genre, the fans are the best fans in the world. They really, really love the shows, and they're the ones that keep them on air. So, yeah, it's really exciting to be on another sci-fi show. And, I love comic books as well.
Q: What is the most fun about playing the evil guy?
Callum: Just the complexity of the character, and the reasons behind why he wants what he wants, and he does what he does. What interests me is the human side of him. He's a very sad, lonely character, but he doesn't ever let that show. There's a reason that he's so shut down. Before I go on set, I'm in my trailer, really working myself up into an emotional state. And then, I go on set and try to cover that up. So, there's always some fire going on within him, but there's a coolness as well.

Spoiler:
Interview: Cassidy Freeman Talks SMALLVILLE Written by Christina Radish Monday, 14 September 2009 17:33
Last season on the CW television drama Smallville, Tess Mercer's (Cassidy Freeman) obsession with Clark Kent's Kryptonian origins came to a head when she confronted intrepid reporter Lois Lane (Erica Durance) about a mysterious alien orb that Tess thought Lois had stolen from her, resulting in the two women battling it out in the Daily Planet. During the fight, Lois touched Clark's time-traveling Legion Ring and vanished in a flash of light, lost somewhere in time, and Tess returned home to discover the orb had released a young version of the villainous Kryptonian, Zod (Callum Blue), as well as the entire population of the lost alien city of Kandor.
This season, Tess will have to deal with the reprecussions over what happened and figure out how to deal with Major Zod and all of the Kandorians that he's now in charge of, giving actress Cassidy Freeman a lot to play with. No longer the newest addition to the series, she spoke to press about being surprised to return for a ninth season, which is rare for television.
Q: Were you surprised that Smallville would be coming back? Did you think last year would be the final season?
Cassidy: Yeah, I was surprised, actually. We thought that it was only going one more year. But, my opinion has always been that if it's wanted, then we should give it, so I like that it came back. People are going to be watching it, which is great.
Q: How would you describe your character? Is she a good girl or a bad girl?
Cassidy: That's a good question. It's a common question because no one really knows, and you want her to be one or the other, because everybody else on the show seems to be one or the other. But, she's neither. She's a human girl.
People always ask me, if Tess could have a superpower, what do you think it would be? And, I don't want her to have a superpower. I want her to stay human. Her and Oliver are the two characters, in my mind, that are run by passion, and they do things because they want to. The things that they do may be bad, but they matter. But, she's kind of bad. She does a lot of bad things.
Q: So, even though you want to keep her powerless, for the sake of the character, you don't have any moments of superhero envy?
Cassidy: No. I still have to do the stunts. I just actually get thrown into things and I get hurt. I have the blood make-up. As an actor, yeah, it would be awesome to have a power, absolutely. But, Tess' power is money, right now. As an actor, I'd love to fly, but wearing a harness is not that much fun. I think that's the whole reason why Tom doesn't want to do it. It's not because of the whole stipulation. He's just like, "Get the harnesses away from me!" No, I'm kidding. They're uncomfortable. You have to put foam in there and stuff. And then, the costumes they want to put on you with the harness, it's not good.
Q: Tess had a big arc last year, finding out that Lex was using her. Does that carry through to this season?
Cassidy: Yeah, with every man that she meets, something seems to go wrong, and I think she carries that with her everywhere. But, that specific thing with Lex was a big one, and I think she takes a lot of independence from it. She's not that really worried about him anymore. She's taken everything that she can gain from him. She's got the journal, she's got the house, she's got the vault and now she's got a connection to Oliver, as well, for business. She's on her own now. Lex is in the background, in her mind.
Q: You've done a full season now. What was the one thing that you were most looking forward to coming back to, after the first season, and what were you not looking forward to?
Cassidy: Honestly, the good is being part of a family like this. It's really cool. With any kind of freelance job, you don't really know when the next time you're going to work is. And, to know the people that you're coming back to, is really comforting ‘cause they're really great people.
The hardest part, for me, is being away from my family in Los Angeles. But, it's only a few years, right? Or, maybe, it's another decade.
Q: How much do they actually tell you, up front, about the season?
Cassidy: They don't know the whole season, up front. They have a white board, the size of Kansas, and they have all these storylines, and it keeps getting erased and moved around. They have to work with a lot of different variables, like how many episodes people are in, where things are going and guest stars that they can or can't get, so it's always moving. It's always an organic process.
They can give you an arc of what you're doing, but it often changes, so they don't give you much. We get scripts maybe three days before we shoot them. And, throughout the entire shooting process, they change all the time, and you get revisions. So, you've just got to be able to roll with the punches.
Q: Do you have some interaction with Major Zod this season?
Cassidy: Yeah, I do. We start out in Episode 1 together, actually right next to each other, not really knowing who the other is. All I know is that he's the leader of these people that have shown up, that are here because of me. I don't know if I've done a really great thing for humanity, which was what I was hoping to do, or if I've done a really awful thing. And so, our interactions are very intellectual. It's very spicy between the two of us, trying to figure out who the other one is and if we can trust each other or not. It's a fun dynamic to play, between the two of us.
Q: Last season, Tess put together her own super-team, the Injustice League.
Cassidy: Yeah. That was short lived, unfortunately.
Q: Will that come back up, now that she has all these Kryptonians to play with?
Cassidy: There is the duality of this character, Mrs. Tessmacher and Mercy Graves. From what I understand of the mythos, Mercy Graves was the leader of the evil army. And so, I like that this whole group of Kandorians has come in. I think that that speaks to the mythos. She's not, by any means, at the helm, which is uncomfortable for my character. She doesn't like not being at the helm and not knowing who these people are. She can't control them, for sure, so she has to figure out how to get back into the power seat. So, it's not her League, by any means. It's Zod's League, which is why they have all this play, back and forth.
Q: How is it, as an actor, to work on a show, where you have many different directors, coming in each week? Is there a difference you notice between all the directors?
Cassidy: Absolutely. There's a difference with every director, as there is a difference with all the writers and the scripts. We have different directors for every episode, but oftentimes, a director will do two episodes. So, it's better when you see a director for the second time because you remember how it is. It's like dancing with a new dance partner. It's like, "How do they move? How do they speak to an actor? How do I get what I need from them?" It's very different, but I love being able to do that, especially young in my career, because that gives me a lot of experience with different people.
Q: How is Tom Welling, as a director?
Cassidy: He directed one episode last season, that I was in, and he's fabulous as a director. He's one of my favorite directors that I've actually ever had, in my professional life. He's quite talented at it, and he really enjoys it as well. He's very calm and he's very giving. It's funny because, in front of the camera and behind the camera, he's like two different people. But, having worked with him a lot, over the season, we knew each other. He knew me, in a more intimate way than a director that comes up for the first time would know me.
My favorite thing that he does, and he's going to get a tag for this now ‘cause I keep saying it, but he'll get all the coverage he needs of a certain scene, and then he'll tell the actors that he'll take one more. He'll be like, "Now, this last take is just for you guys. Go for it." What that does is it shows that he has shared actor trust. You don't have to just hit this mark and look this way and do this thing. Sometimes, at the end of all that direction, you can end up looking like a robot. But, he does that, and he said he gets a lot of really great footage from that.

Erica: Yo nunca pien, "Oh, voy a conseguir otra temporada."
Erica: ¡No, no me gustaría! No podía respirar, comer o sentarme.
